“Samman Ghar” Launched to Create Safe, Supportive Spaces for Women Waste Worker Communities
Kathmandu, March 18, 2026 — Marking World Recycling Day, Khaalisisi, in partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, inaugurated “Samman Ghar”, a dedicated safe space for the children of women waste workers.
The facility has been established within Khaalisisi’s WOW Center — Well-Being Out of Waste, a recycling and community innovation space supported by Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal that focuses on improving recycling systems while uplifting the people who make them possible.
Samman Ghar was created to recognize the invisible yet essential role played by women waste workers in Nepal’s recycling ecosystem. While these women help recover valuable materials and keep cities cleaner, many face daily challenges balancing work and childcare.
The newly inaugurated space provides a safe, nurturing environment where children can play, learn, and spend time while their mothers work, offering waste workers greater peace of mind and dignity in their workplace.
Speaking at the inauguration, Amun Thapa, CEO of Khaalisisi, said: “Waste workers are the backbone of Nepal’s recycling system, yet their contributions often go unseen. Samman Ghar is a small but meaningful step to recognize their role and ensure their children have a safe space to learn and grow. At Khaalisisi, we believe building a circular economy must also mean building dignity and support for the people who power it.”
Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, which has been working with partners across the country to strengthen recycling systems, supported the development of the WOW Center and continues to collaborate on initiatives that improve both environmental outcomes and community wellbeing.
Sneha Shrestha, Community & Sustainability Manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, shared, “At Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, we believe that a truly effective recycling system is built not only on infrastructure, but on the wellbeing of the people who sustain it every day. Samman Ghar reflects our commitment to creating a better shared future, one that advances environmental progress while uplifting communities. Through our partnership with Khaalisisi, we are honored to support initiatives that recognize the invaluable contributions of women waste workers, while creating safe, nurturing spaces for their families to learn and thrive. We remain committed to fostering inclusive, resilient communities as part of our broader sustainability journey.”
Looking ahead, Khaalisisi plans to expand the Samman Ghar concept to provide broader support to waste worker families. Future initiatives being explored include health support, educational opportunities for children, and additional community programs designed to improve the wellbeing of waste worker households.
The inauguration highlights how partnerships between social enterprises and private sector organizations can help build a recycling ecosystem that is not only environmentally responsible, but also socially inclusive.
